The upper limb extends from the pectoral girdle, consisting of the scapula and clavicle, down to the finger tips and encompasses 32 bones accross 7 different anatomical areas.
It is colloquially called ‘The arm’ which is from Proto-Indo-European ‘Ar-‘ denoting ‘To join’. This became ‘Arm’ in Germanic and was applied to the upper limb. The Greek ‘Arthros’ meaning ‘A joint’ from which ‘Arthritis’ is derived also comes from this same root.
